A 25-year-old Business Education student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Koya Ayodeji, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a colleague with a knife during an argument.
It was reported that the suspect who is a 5th-year student, allegedly under the influence of drugs, stabbed Ayobami Ajayi, a 21-year-old Mass Communication student in his 3rd year, in the lower abdomen.
The stabbing occurred after a heated argument broke out between the suspect and the victim, sparked by a complaint from the suspect about excessive noise coming from the victim’s room.
According to the Ogun police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the suspect said he had asked Ajayi to reduce the noise emanating from his room, but he had ignored him adding that he had in anger picked up a knife and stuck it in the victim’s lower abdomen.
She stated while the suspect had been arrested, the victim was rushed to the State University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu and his condition, stable.
“A case of attempted murder occurred at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, on January 21, 2025, at approximately 11:50 pm,” the police spokesperson said.
She added, “The incident followed a misunderstanding between two students over noise disturbances in a dormitory room.
“Ayodeji was under the influence of hard drugs at the time of the attack. He has since been arrested and the Divisional Police Officer has requested a toxicology screening to confirm his condition.
“The Divisional Crime Branch has visited the crime scene, recovering a blood-stained knife, which has been marked as evidence. Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more details emerge.”
