January 11, 2025 BROOKLYN, New York – A 50-year-old man was critically wounded during a shooting involving four NYPD officers after the armed male allegedly pointed a gun at the members of service in Brooklyn on Friday evening.
According to officials, four officers patrolling in Canarsie responded to the sound of gunfire near Flatlands Avenue and E 80th Street.
Upon arrival officers witnessed a man exiting a convenience store at 776 E 80th Street and immediately start running northbound.
The officers gave chase on foot and by vehicle while identifying themselves and instructing the individual to stop running. The suspect however continued running and took cover behind a tree where he allegedly pointed a gun at a uniformed NYPD sergeant, cops said.
Four officers discharged their service weapons, striking the suspect multiple times in the torso. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital in critical condition where he remains in police custody.
Detectives recovered a firearm, along with a ghost gun inside the store where the gunfire originated.
The investigation into the shooting incident reported at around 9:45 p.m. in Canarsie is ongoing.
