In our latest episode of Talk and Block Steven “DreamKing” Chavez proposes five different types of characters he feels aren’t fully represented in Street Fighter 6 yet, and that could potentially round out the game to an even greater degree than it’s already at.
Though we definitely do talk about specific representatives for each of these types, the idea here is meant to be more broad than a simple list of hopeful newcomers. It’s not all restricted to a discussion about the likes of zoners, grapplers, rush down, and the like, as DreamKing gets a little more creative the further we go.
One such proposed type of character is a guest, perhaps from another Capcom property. Mortal Kombat has being going ham on this front for years now, going as far as to welcome in figures who are not only not from fighting games, but from outside the world of video games in general.
Tekken 7 jumped on board when it featured Street Fighter’s Akuma, and pushed the envelope even further with the later inclusions of such fighters as Negan from The Walking Dead and Noctis from the Final Fantasy series.
Outside of Final Fight, which is essentially a sister IP to Street Fighter, Capcom really doesn’t tend to bring in characters from other franchises. They broke this streak with Rival Schools’ Akira in Street Fighter 5’s final chapters, and she wound up being a very interesting inclusion.
Other games tend to lend themselves to various mechanics as well as naturally different feel and flow from Street Fighter, and in the case of Akira it meant she brought Rival Schools’ aerial combos and tag-like mechanics to the game.
While not necessarily the biggest success of all time, Akira was by no means a failure and perhaps opened the door for more like her in the future.
It may be a bit much to ask Capcom to invite fighters from other developers (though it does feel like Tekken owes a Heihachi or a Jin guest appearance at this point) but what about someone from their own back yard?
Since Darkstalkers does indeed seem to be dead, perhaps the mega popular Morrigan Aensland might grace us with her presence in Street Fighter 6? We go deeper with this part of the conversation and there are four other “types” of fighters DreamKing proposes in the full video below.
