PND Ketchup reminds us that the former cyborgs in MK1 aren’t the only ones who’ve changed
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is set for release next month and will be adding three legacy characters back into the game as DLC. Of the three, two are the popular cyborgs Cyrax and Sektor, however, in the latest entry these two fighters are human females wearing battle suits.
People seem to be fairly divided on whether or not this was a good design choice for these highly recognizable characters, and if you’re on the side that feels it was a bad move, then PND Ketchup has something just for you. The prominent commentator / content creator has constructed a fresh list of five characters who also received drastic overhauls throughout Mortal Kombat history.
Speaking on the subject of the new Cyrax and Sektor, we have a case of two characters that used to be cyborgs that have now been turned into humans. Funny enough, NetherRealm Studios once did the inverse of this with another fan-favorite character, and people weren’t too thrilled about that either.
One of the characters on Ketchup’s list is none other than the icy ninja, Frost. When she was first made playable in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Frost acted as simply another ninja character with ice attacks that was a part of the Lin Kuei.
Back in Mortal Kombat 11, though, NetherRealm drastically reinvented this fighter’s design and transformed her into a cyborg. The change here wasn’t just visual either, as the new cyborg Frost now had attacks that saw her torso spin with icy blades, her head fall off and explode like a grenade, and much more.
Frost is currently a Kameo Fighter in Mortal Kombat 1 where she has returned back to her former ninja self.
There are several other great examples of big changes like this, including essentially a throw away character becoming a full fledged fighter, a sub-boss who lost his legs, and more. Be sure to check out Ketchup’s full video below.
