Manchester United finally ended their five-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Brentford at Old Trafford.
It was a match that looked set to pile even more pressure on Erik ten Hag, as United went into halftime trailing 1-0, courtesy of Ethan Pinnock’s header.
Whilst Matthijs De Ligt was off the pitch with a head injury, Pinnock headed in from a corner.
However, this controversy seemed to rile up the United players in the second half.
The second half brought a dramatic turnaround.
Alejandro Garnacho’s stunning volley from a Marcus Rashford cross and a composed finish from Rasmus Hojlund saved the day, offering relief for ten Hag and a much-needed boost for the team.
The first half had been uninspiring for United, with Brentford largely controlling the tempo and taking advantage of United’s inability to create clear-cut chances.
It wasn’t until the second half that United found their rhythm, helped by a couple of key tactical adjustments from ten Hag.
The win moved United into the top half of the Premier League table temporarily only to slip back down to 11th after Bournemouth beat Arsenal.
Though they still have plenty of work to do, this victory will restore some much-needed confidence heading into their midweek Europa League clash with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.
