Nigerian actor, Yemi Solade, has fired back at critics of his role in the newly released movie 5Alive, which premiered on YouTube on November 14, 2024.
The film, which featured Solade alongside co-actor Sanusi Izihaq (popularly known as Apa), portrays the pair as lovers in a storyline that has generated backlash.
The controversy started after actor Rotimi Salami posted a promotional clip from the movie on Instagram.
The scene depicted Solade kissing Izihaq on the cheek, which led to accusations on social media that the actors were promoting homosexuality.
An Instagram user identified as @dunne_black, wrote in Yoruba, “Mo sorry but ara yin o ya” — meaning, “I’m sorry, but you are not okay.”
Reacting to the criticism, Solade wrote in Yoruba: “Orí bàbá ẹ to wà ní ọgbà wèrè lo ń bá wí,” which means, “It’s your father’s head in the asylum you are talking to.”
