2nd Anniversary Poem: Hope and Renewal

·

‘On your mandate,
We shall stand,’
“On your marks”, we got set
And delivered on the call.

It was not easy, but God was with you,
And we knew what we had to do,
The radio serenaded that it was true
About the sacrifices that we went through.

The radio just commanded me,
To move ahead without fear.
I stared back at all that I could see
And started on the path that made me free.

The shackles broke,
The strangle hold could no longer choke,
Having gone cold and feeble,
They now knew that ‘they can’t kill the beetle’.

Here we stand with a heart full of cheer,
Thanks to the radio, and the wisdom it did bring near,
For in its rhythms, we found the strength to move on
And discover a family that has now grown strong.

My village has now embraced a
Renewed sense of pride and harmony,
Its reflection mirrored in all patriots,
Now flourishing with hope.

Hope and renewal are now found
In many places and the simplest of things:
‘On your mandate,
We all shall stand’.
