Abia State Governor, Mr Alex Otti, will lead a strong campaign council of the Labour Party in the race for the Surulere Federal Constituency seat.
The bye-election which would be held on Saturday, February 3, is being conducted to replace the vacant seat after Femi Gbajabiamila was appointed as the Chief of Staff to the president.
The party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi and the National Chairman of the party, Mr Julius Abure will on Thursday flag off the campaign.
The former presidential candidate of the party will also formally inaugurate the 30-member Campaign Council that will be led by Otti.
Engr Adeola Adebanjo, who is the Labour Party’s candidate for the bye-elections is expected to lead thousands of party members and the Obidient family, Obi’s main support base, in the state.
The campaign committee also has as members Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim, LP’s National Secretary, Arch Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former LP governorship candidate in the state, members of the national assembly and other top party leaders.
Veteran Olawale Okunniyi will serve as the Secretary of the campaign committee, according to the statement issued on Wednesday by Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party.
