Honda announced on Thursday that the American division of the car manufacturing company is recalling almost 206,000 Pilot and Passport vehicles due to concerns of a potential for the vehicles to experience a fuel leak.
In a Thursday press release, Honda revealed that the Honda vehicle models affected by the recall are the 2023-2025 Pilot and 2023-2024 Passport sport utility vehicles. The press release noted, “Some vehicles may have an incomplete connection between the fuel filler neck tube and fuel filler pipe that could cause the two components to separate in a crash, allowing fuel to leak and increasing the risk of fire or injury.”
A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report obtained by Fox Business confirmed that the recall was caused by a “out of sequence process” of the vehicles’ fuel pipe installation that “prevented the fuel neck tube and fuel pipe from forming a complete connection.”
On Thursday, Honda announced that the recall, which will include roughly 206,000 vehicles in the United States, will include a free inspection for the vehicle owners and that Honda will repair the Pilot and Passport’s fuel pipe that “may have been improperly assembled” if necessary.

“Registered owners of all affected models will be contacted by mail in January and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer for a free inspection,” Honda stated. “The dealer will connect the fuel filler neck tube to the fuel filler pipe if it is found that they were not properly connected.”
According to Honda’s press release, the company has not received any confirmed reports of any crashes or injuries caused by the fuel pipe issue. Additionally, Fox Business reported that Honda has only fielded one warranty claim due to the recall issue.
“American Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for inspection as soon as they receive notification,” Honda concluded in Thursday’s press release. “Owners of these vehicles can also determine if their vehicles require inspection by visiting www.recalls.honda.com, or by calling (888) 234-2138.”
