2027: ADC Coalition Movement Alleges Rigging Plot, Warns Opposition Against Strategic Failure

By Kelvin Obambon

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Coalition Movement has issued a stern warning to Nigeria’s opposition parties, describing the recently concluded FCT Area Council elections as a “wake-up call” and a preview of a larger plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to compromise the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Austine Ibok of the ADC Coalition Movement asserted that while the ADC has emerged as a formidable alternative, the opposition’s failure to plan and strategize effectively would lead to inevitable defeat.

According to the Coalition, the unusual mobilization of government machinery during the FCT polls suggests that the ruling party recognizes the ADC’s growing influence. Ibok noted that the participation of the ADC changed the narrative of the local elections, forcing the “master riggers” into sleepless nights.

“Historically, FCT area council elections have not attracted this level of attention,” the statement read. “The ruling party and the entire government machinery appeared fully mobilized, clearly acknowledging ADC as a growing force.”

The Coalition raised several red flags regarding the conduct of the polls, accusing INEC of acting as an extension of the ruling party. Ibok outlined several tactics allegedly planned for 2027, including the deployment of non-functional card readers, deletion of names from opposition registers, deliberate lack of election material deployment in opposition strongholds, and the use of security agencies and thugs to intimidate voters.

He specifically called out the activities of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, alleging that his movements during the election and public statements regarding the “allocation” of votes were clear indicators of a rigging plot designed to discourage voter turnout.

Citing a lack of confidence in the Nigerian judiciary – which it described as an “extension of the APC government” – the ADC Coalition Movement called for a coordinated “counter-strategic” plan. This includes seeking help from international organizations and world powers, including U.S. President Donald Trump, to protect Nigeria’s democracy.

“Unity among coalition leaders is essential; we must act collectively rather than independently,” Ibok urged. “We must constantly embark on peaceful protests and write petitions to international organizations about the APC government’s plans to rig the 2027 election.”

Likening politics to a game of chess, the Coalition emphasized that success depends on messaging, organization, and persistence. The statement concluded by congratulating the ADC on its performance in the FCT, labeling it a “stepping stone” toward building a credible alternative for Nigerians in the next general election cycle.
