By Ovat Abeng

The socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, on Tuesday, said the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, will give Nigerians accountability in governance, if elected as successor to President Muhammadu Buhari, in the forthcoming general elections.

She stated this during the LP presidential campaign rally held at the All Saint Cathedral Anglican Church, Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to Yesufu, the labour party presidential candidate is the man to trust, adding that he will give Nigerians accountability, he will provide good roads, creates job opportunities for the teaming youths.

“I urged Nigerians to use their Permanent Voter’s Card and thumbprint to elect good leaders that will take Nigeria to the promised land,” the activist added.

Also speaking, the former governor of Anambra, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, who was optimistic that there will be no interim government after the 2023 general elections said that Obi will be sworn- in as the winner of the election.

“There will be no interim government in Nigeria after the general elections, Peter Obi will be sworn-in as the overall winner of the election.

“He is the man of the people, I urged you all to come out en mass and vote for him, and elect a brand new president of Nigeria”, he said.

In his opening address, the State Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Comrade Ugochukwu Umeh, said that Nigerians were proud of Peter Obi, assuring that he would not disappoint Nigerians if elected president.

“We are very proud of Peter Obi, he will not disappoint us if we elect him as our president, I want to thank all Nigerians for supporting him in this cause irrespective of our religious background.

“He will revive our economy for sustainable growth, we are sure that after his tenure, we will not regret electing him as our president”, he said.

While addressing the people, Peter Obi, promised to increase international airports in the country to six and to also end flooding by dredging river Niger and Benue.

He said what stood he and his running mate out from other party candidates remained the rare combination of being wealth creators, adding that both of he and his running mate are wealth creators with capacity to manage it.

He emphasized that he will negotiate with agitators to make peace in the country which has been taken over by restiveness, but if those causing insecurity and restiveness refuse, “we will tell them that we have a government in Nigeria”.

He said, “All we are coming to do is to end suffering and build a new Nigeria. In Nigeria today, nobody is safe, family are begging to eat. We will secure and unite Nigeria.

“What I did in Anambra, I will do in Nigeria. We will negotiate, but whoever that refuses, we will tell him there is a government.

“Anambra is a trading and manufacturing city, we will support all businesses. We will do same in Lagos, Kano, Kaduna and Borno. Every part of Nigeria will be productive.

“We will open roads. Any tarred road you see in Onitsha was tarred by me. I built the best road network in Nigeria. Those who left Nigeria will come back; we will face exportation to stabilize and reverse the dwindling fortunes of the naira if we assume power.

“There is no combination between us and others, if you have not created wealth, you cannot manage it. Datti and I are businessmen. The only way Nigeria can change is to hand it over to wealth creators.

“What we will do will surprise everybody. They say I am stingy. Between those who stole money and those who saved money, who do you prefer? If our previous leaders were stingy, we wouldn’t have been where we are today.

“The more you employ people, you will pull them out of poverty. I will fight poverty and out of school children in Nigeria. All parts of Nigeria will celebrate me.

“The work of a leader is not to complain but to find solutions. We are not going to remind you of your past, but we will help you build your future. We will use factor endowment, taking advantage of oil in the South-South, groundnut in North.

“We will ensure police do not harass you again. We will recruit more officers and train them to know how to relate with the public.

“If I am the President, the North, the South South, South West and the South East will celebrate me. If I am president here South East will celebrate me because I will turn it the economic base, the same thing I will do in other sections of the country and they will celebrate me. Every part of the country is blessed with resources and I will used whatever they have to develop them.”

Obi’s running mate, Yusuf Datti said he decided to work with Obi because of his belief in justice, equality and fairness.

He asked Nigerians to hold them responsible if they fail in their promises, insisting that the February 25 election was good as won.

He said, “The joy and fun I am having here has made me forget the cost of foodstuffs in the market, and forget they are stealing our money.

“APC is being deceived by your money in their pockets, and PDP who forgets easily is being deceived by the small money in their pockets they want to spend. This election is good as won.

“Peter Obi is a shining star who will move the country from consumption to production. With Obi and I under the OBIdient movement, nothing will stop us from rescuing Nigeria.

“The very day we are inaugurated, we will stop the killings and start healing. Recently, bandits released their abductors simply because they identified themselves as OBIdients.”

The LP National Chairman, Julius Abure said people of the state were lucky to have their son as the party’s flag-bearer for the election.

He said, “Ordinarily, we would not have come to Anambra because we would have taken it for granted that you are all OBIdients. But because of bad eggs we are here. In every society, you have both forces of light and darkness, but the former will always outshine the later.

“Onitsha has always produced great leaders and another one is about to happen. Any opportunity lost cannot be regained. We must give Obi 99.9 per cent votes.

“If there’s any person that will say it’s my turn, it’s Obi. Anambra people are very lucky. We are not saying you should vote for us because it’s our turn, but because we have competent and capable candidates.”

The Wife of LP candidate, Mrs Magaret Obi urged eligible voters to go for their Permanent Voters Cards, describing it as their only weapon to vote out bad leaders.

She also assured that election would hold in Southeast and would be peaceful.

“You’ve shown that we have people and you’re behind us. In LP, we have the best team Nigeria can get. A new Nigeria is about to be born. We women have the worth to birth it. With 75 % of us. We’ll give Obi 100%.

The South-East Zonal Coordinator of Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene said the battle to rescue Nigeria is not Peter Obi’s, but you and I.

In his speech, Prof. Pat Utomi, said that in the race for the presidential seat, characters, competence matter a lot, adding that Obi who was his school mate at Christ the Kings College, Onitsha, has received good character upbringing that is needed to rescue Nigeria.
