2023: Asuquo Ekpenyong loyalist donates sports kits to Atimbo/Nyaghasang/Otop-Otop youth teams

By Kelvin Obambon

A core loyalist of Mr Asuquo Ekpenyong, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Cross River State Southern Senatorial District, has donated sports kits to some youth football teams in Atimbo/Nyaghasang/Otop-Otop in ward 3, Calabar Municipal Council.

Mr Vincent Effiong, who presented the items to the teams at Wembley Stadium, Atimbo, on Saturday, said the gesture was his own way of supporting the senatorial ambition of Mr Asuquo Ekpenyong, popularly known as “The Standard”.

Vincent, one of Ekpenyong’s media aides, identified sports as a powerful tool for fostering unity among youths.

According to him, “Football actually brings people together, create an atmosphere of peace and harmony. Globally, football encourages peace. I train here regularly. I bought some kits for the youths who come out here to train as a way of showing and seeking support for my candidate, Mr Asuquo Ekpenyong.

“As you can see, the kits have Asuquo Ekpenyong and his campaign message crested on them. Wherever and whenever these kits are used, they serve to remind people that we have a competent and passionate youth like us who is vying for the southern senatorial seat on 25th February, 2023, and therefore needs our support.”

He described the APC candidate as intellectually vibrant, adding that he would contribute immensely to the development of Cross River Southern Senatorial District if given the mandate to serve.

Receiving the items on behalf of the teams, Comrade Usang Usang expressed gratitude to the donor and pledged that every youth who plays football in the Atimbo/Nyaghasang/Otop-Otop area would rally round and vote for Asuquo Ekpenyong on February 25th.

Usang who is the captain and “skippo” of Wembley Football Club Atimbo, said “I am overwhelmed. I didn’t see it coming. It came as a surprise. Wembley Football Club is a youth team. Asuquo Ekpenyong is a youth. So no youth will even have a reason to oppose him. He’s the saviour of our time. I want to extend my greetings to him. We at Wembley in ward 3 Calabar Municipality are really in support of him, and we are very thankful. We are looking forward to his election as the Senator representing southern senatorial district in Cross River State.”

Items donated to the teams include footballs and a dozen of training vests.
