2022 Carnival Calabar to hold after two years of absence

After two years of absence, the Carnival Calabar, Africa’s Biggest Street party will return this December 2022 with glamour and glitz.

This was disclosed on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, after a meeting of approval was held by the Cross River State Executive Council at the Government House, Calabar.

Hon. Eric Anderson, Cross River State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, moved the motion and was duly approved by members of the Council that the Carnival Calabar should return in 2022.

Recall that the Cross River State Government led by Governor Ben Ayade had to shut down carnival activities for the past two years due to COVID-19.

However, Ayade gave the marching orders for preparations to begin in earnest after the Council made a case for its return.

On what to expect in this year’s carnival, Anderson said “We have had a two-year hiatus, so, we will be coming up with a bumper carnival program”.
