2019: Nobody's aspiration should be used as platform to throw tantrums at... —Joseph Bassey

12 February 2018
My dearest friends, brothers and sisters of Akpabuyo, Bakassi and Calabar South,
I am very humbled and in all honesty overwhelmed by your love and good thoughts towards me and in the same vein, I want to sincerely apologise to everyone my supporters may have in one way or the other offended by their utterances either by way of comments, posts etc, as well as strongly implore that we all should be properly guided, so much so that we can communicate objectively whatever we intend to, bearing in mind our constitutional rights.
Nobody's aspiration should be used as a platform to disrespect or throw tantrums at anybody. We are all one-big-loving-family and within the ambit of the law we all reserve the right to vote and be voted for, as well as exercise our freedom of speech, but when your speech infringes on the right of others or your speech is insinuative of disrepute and disrespect, then trust me, you are doing this family more harm than good.
For the record, I hereby disassociate myself from any disparaging social media comments, tweets, post, defamatory pictures aimed at tarnishing anybody's image, I equally would take exception to any against me as well. My relationship with any interested aspirants to the A,B,C Federal Constituency remains as mutually cordial as possible.
I implore us to be disciplined in expressing our support to whomever we so desire, as this will not only help us grow in peace and harmony, but we all know, the cost of discipline is always less than the price of regret.
However, I am most grateful to God almighty and all of you for the rare privilege afforded me. I hereby assure you of my continuous dedication to serve you.
Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey
Deputy Speaker
8th Cross River State House of Assembly

This press release was made by the Chief of General Staff (CoS) of the Deputy Speaker, Mr Joshua Ante.
This publication seem to have been inspired by the rousing against the perceived aspiration of Rt. Hon. Apostle Essien Ayi for the House of Representatives for the fourth time since 2003.
