Latest Mortal Kombat 1 Nintendo Switch patch notes released, improvements to visuals and performance made

Another Mortal Kombat 1 update has been shipped out, this time specifically for the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

It’s no secret that the Switch port of Mortal Kombat 1 is riddled with issues, and it looks like Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios are beginning to address some of them now. The latest update’s patch notes are now available, and in them we learn that the new update comes equipped with visual, performance, and loading time improvements, as well as several other fixes.

Mortal Kombat 1 is an incredibly graphically demanding game. It looks gorgeous and it is very much a true next-gen title, so fans had some concerns when they initially learned that the game would also see a release on Nintendo’s console / handheld hybrid.

To put this into perspective, the Nintendo Switch is generally considered to have weaker hardware than even the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, and Mortal Kombat 1 didn’t even see a release on either of those two past generation platforms. So, what happens when a highly detailed and highly demanding game like Mortal Kombat 1 is released on Nintendo Switch? A ton of issues, that’s what.

Shortly after release, fans and media outlets were quick to show comparisons between the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 and the other platforms’ versions. The disparity was night and day different, with characters on the Switch looking bug eyed and bereft of detail and shading. It’s pretty rough.

Fortunately, though, Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon put out a message to fans last month not only acknowledging that he is aware of the issues, but that the Switch version will definitely be seeing an update to address the problems.

“It will be supported, like we did with Mortal Kombat 11,” Boon said about the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1. “Anything that we see that is not acceptable will absolutely be addressed.”

Specific details about what all was changed wasn’t provided in the patch notes, however, we do get the general idea of what areas of the game have been touched up. Season 1 of Invasions, stability, performance, loading times, visuals, and more have all been tweaked or improved here, and the patch notes interestingly also make mention of “gameplay balance changes,” though there are no notes on what or who got altered on that front.
