13 Injured In Lagos Auto Accident

Several commuters were injured on Sunday when an Acura Jeep collided with a Volkswagen commercial bus at College Bus Stop, Ikotun-Igando, Lagos State.

It was gathered that the Jeep driver, speeding excessively, lost concentration, veered off course, mounted the median, and crashed into the oncoming commercial bus filled with passengers.

The impact left several commuters with severe injuries, including multiple fractures and other trauma.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, stated that operatives rescued 13 injured passengers—eight males and five females—who were rushed to a nearby hospital in Igando for urgent medical attention.

“To maintain order and facilitate emergency response efforts, security personnel from the Igando Police Division provided crucial reinforcement throughout the operation.

“With the aid of conscientious passersby, LASTMA officials ensured the expeditious conveyance of all casualties to a nearby private medical facility at Igando for urgent treatment,” Adebayo said.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits to prevent such accidents.

He also noted the Lagos State Government’s ongoing deployment of speed limit enforcement cameras to curb reckless driving.

Bakare-Oki extended his sympathies to the injured and reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to improving road safety and reducing traffic-related casualties across the state.
