May 10, 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – A young girl was hospitalized after being slashed on the ear and head with a boxcutter during a random attack at a subway station in Harlem, cops said.
Reportedly an 11-year-old girl was injured during a slashing attack while on a northbound platform in the station near Lexington Avenue & E 116th Street at around 2:15 p.m., Friday afternoon. The young victim was rushed to Harlem Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The slashing incident occurred in the 116th station as the young girl was with her mother on a downtown platform. The chaotic scene went down just as several schools in East Harlem were starting their student dismissal for the day, leaving the neighborhood flooded with school children and teens.
We spoke with an MTA worker who said he saw a man acting erratic who was on the tracks. The MTA worker also stated that the disturbed individual may have made contact with third rail somehow because the worker saw sparks . The worker then spoke about his attempt to stop the fleeing suspect.
“Somebody yelled that he stabbed someone, so immediately grabbed him and held him for police, but after that he managed to get away, when he got away, I got him to the turnstile and he managed to get away the second time, the third a group of people caught him and beat him up,” the MTA employee said.
One person was taken into custody at the scene with charges pending.
